OOPS

The pictures on the post got kind of messed up. The merry go round one got moved to the top and cut off half. sorry!

This seems like a very french merry go round. I cant explain it. But I do think that the
shape of the picture is nice, how the circle curves out

I think this first one is probably my favorite because it shows all these little details about
how many parts of paris were at this time period. The houses are tall and rickety
and the cobblestone road is so narrow.

I like this picture just because it holds my attention so well.
I keep thinking what the heck is she looking at.

I dont know what to think about this one its almost a little bit to contrasty and
grainy for me, even though I know that that's kind of the style.

I just thought this was crazy. Not only is it a cool picture being all sepia toned and everything, but look at those corsets! whose waist is really that small?

About: Eugene Atget was born in 1857 near the french city of Bordeaux, was orphaned at seven and raised by his uncle. After working as a sailor for a few years, he decided to become an actor, but without much success. He married Valentine DeLafosse, an actress with whom he spent the rest of his life. He had a very bohemian affection for the working person and always was concerned about the petty tradespeople and mechants who were threatened by the modernization and rise of the big paris department stores. He was said to be quite eccentiric and by his fifties he refused to eat anything but bread, milk, and sugar.

Work: Nearly all of Atget's photography documents the street life of Paris, where he lived. In his work, he seemed to cooly avoid perfection, but still acheive a level of it. His pictures were very exposing and eye opening. They recognized that which was ugly and beautiful about Paris life, and created something completely different. His photography happened so early in the world of photography that his style was very different from so many of the photographers today, but he made it work, and he made some very interesting and beautiful images that are still appreciated today.
