Final Project- MAILBOXES

So this is my final project!!!!

I did mailboxes and it turned out pretty great I think. I spent a whole Saturday driving around up in Midway/Heber looking for sweet ones and I think I fould some really really good ones. My favorite is the old rusty mailbox and the flamingo. I took them both in color and converted them later and when they're in color you can really see how fantastically great the light was. I took most of these between 3 and five and they turned out really good.

My next favorite is the old fashioned mailbox, and you cant see it in black and white but its a copper mailbox that turned blue with age and it and the gate of the house that it was at were so pretty!But dont worry because I wasn't just seduced by color because I think that they are still great pictures compositionally.

As for the entire term of photo, I think I really learned a lot about how to take pictures well and how to make them better. The most valuable things I learned were definitely;

1) How to bracket!!!! It helped me get good exposures all term long and I actually ended up liking the bracketing assignment.

2) TRIPOD! the tripod saved me so many times and made my pictures way better. On the reshoot assignment I was able to reshoot that Hymnbook about a million times better just because I had a tripod and was able to hold the camera still and move it in new places that I wasn't able to before.

Without these muy importante things I would not have been able to produce the images that I did this term. Also good lighting makes a big big big big big difference too.

ASSIGNMENT #5 - Reshoot

So I liked this assignment. This picture is one of my favorite ones that I've done all term. It was a really difficult decision to choose just one though!

My favorite thing about this image is definitely how great the lighting was. It was by this window in my dining room, and its actually shot in the exact same spot that the original one was. Its amazing that even though they're in the same spot the reshot one is so much better! I mean they were even both at the same time of day!

Also I retouched it in like 2 steps! extra credit!!! woot!!!

Ok so here's the deal....

Well last night I reshot my reshoot assignment and they turned out freaking sweet since I found this great window to put them by. I was way excited to come and work on them today but then I woke up with a sore throat fever and headache so that didnt really work out. But then I was talking to my dad and it turns out that we have photoshop and bridge on our mac so I imported all of the pics! Im putting them on here UNEDITED because I like them so much :D i dont know how ill choose one for the actual assignment.

Ok so the first two arent as cool picturally as the other four but here is why they're sweet.

So I was taking pictures of this little book and my mom saw me and she told me to be way careful with it. When I asked why she said that that was HER great-grandma's (my great-great-grandmas) mormon hymnbook that she had brought to salt lake with her from sweden when she was fifteen and had converted. Cool huh? Inside of the cover is her dated signature from the day that she arrived in salt lake. I took a picture of the text because swedish words are funny to read Hannah- I dare you to pick a hymn and sing those words to it

Scavenger Hunt That I Never Posted

So I must have missed the day that we posted these....because I never did it =) My favorite of these pictures is the one of my dog, Maggie, bcause i like how close it is and how much personality it has in it. I also like the one of the tree and the sky, even though it's a little gray (I had to bring up the curves a lot), because of the contrast that is potentially there.

ASSIGNMENT #4 - Portraits

So I actually did not really like this assignment as much as I thought I would. I had a very difficult time getting pictures to be really in focus, since a lot of the time I needed longer exposures and people tend to like to move. A lot.

But some of these ones that I ended up using I really liked. The three bottom ones are my favorite, those are the ones that I printed. I think they do a really good job showing a relationship between the camera and them. My least favorite one is the one of the silhouette of the hand, because it seems kind of cliche and impersonal. I just realized that half of my assignment is on hands. I dont know if thats a good thing or not but I like it though =)
